Keyless Entry For Your Jaguar XK

Jaguar left out the extremely desirable ability to control the convertible top operation using the remote key fob. This would be a wonderful option, as it will reduce wind buffeting when driving the XK.

If your Jaguar XF key fob is not working anymore or has an effective range that has decreased it's time to replace the battery. Here's how to replace the battery.

Keyless Entry System

If you've ever had to spend several minutes digging through your purse or pockets, trying to find your keys before heading out the door, you should consider upgrading to keyless entry for your Jaguar XE in Phoenix or Scottsdale. This feature adds a level of convenience and safety to your Jaguar vehicle that many appreciate. Simply walk into your XE with the Jaguar key fob held in your hand and it will be able to tell that you're within reach. With the key fob close by and grabbing the door handle or pressing the luggage compartment release button will unlock your car.

Your Jaguar key fob comes with an electronic chip that allows it to communicate directly with the Jaguar system. It can unlock doors, operate windows and sunroofs, and even remotely begin your engine. The key fob has rubber seals that shield it from water damage. However, it is important to remove it from its holder to clean any electronic components that are exposed with isopropyl and a paper towel. Submerging your key fob into salted or soapy water could affect the circuitry and need the replacement.

The Jaguar XK keyfob comes with the option to "double-lock" your vehicle. This offers additional security against theft. However the Jaguar key fob could be inoperable due to a variety of reasons, including an empty coin battery within the key fob or an unpaired key that requires reprogramming by the dealer.

Transponder Chip Keys

Jaguar introduced a brand-new key design in 1998. This key required specialized equipment to program. These keys are equipped with a transponder, which disables the vehicle's immobiliser. The keys must be added to Jaguar's database, which is usually handled by a locksmith or dealer. Contrary to what many believe, not all locksmiths or dealers are equipped to handle this type of key. Some even have been known to charge excessively Jaguar customers for their services.

Tibbe Keys

Some Jaguars of the 1990s used what's called a Tibbe Key. They require special equipment because they feature flat cuts with precise angles on four different sides. They cannot be interchangeable with regular keys, and most locksmiths don't have the equipment required to cut them. This can result in long wait times for owners in need of replacement keys. Dealerships can also cut them but charge a substantial amount.

The lock is very interesting. It is comprised of a number of discs that rotate and must be aligned for the sidebars to fall into place to open the door lock or trunk. This is accomplished using a special-looking pick/decoder tool that appears like a drill bit, and it can be a bit challenging. This tool should only be used on the DOOR lock, and not the ignition or trunk lock.

There are a small number of locksmiths who specialize in Tibbe key production, and their costs differ based on a variety of factors, including time, effort, cost of consumables and equipment, etc. The adapter kit designed specifically to work on these types of keys can cost several hundred dollars, and each must be crafted by hand (or a skilled programer can do it on an automated key machine) for every new key that is created.

Key Fob Battery Replacement

Most key fob batteries deteriorate in time, and it's important to keep an extra battery in your inventory. If your key fob stops responding to buttons or doesn't respond to them, it's probably time to replace it. It is also possible to see your Message Center alerting you that the battery is running low.

It's easy to change the battery on your Jaguar key fob in your garage. It only takes a few minutes. The first step is to break the fob's lid open using the flat-head screwdriver or your fingernail. There are usually 2 seams where the fob's two halves meet, and you are able to be careful to break them apart to expose the emergency key blade.

Once the fob is open it is possible to move the key blade back to remove the cover and reveal the old battery. The battery will resemble an old coin with the plus and minus signs on one side. Make sure to insert another battery of the same type and orient it correctly.

Be sure to only touch the battery from the sides. Doing so from the top and bottom can cause moisture to transfer which reduces battery life. Reassemble the fob, and test the buttons on the remote to determine whether they work. If not, call your local Jaguar Annapolis service pros for assistance.
